Research

Welcome to Zhang Lab! We study the blood-brain barrier (BBB), a structure that both protects delicate neurons from environmental toxins yet also allows transport of nutrients. A molecular clock within this gateway to the brain makes it highly dynamic over the course of the day:night cycle. Our work seeks to understand how the clock influences the BBB, what molecules are gated by time, and how this process might be changed by disease.
